FAQs

Do you purchase items outright or take them on consignment?

We consider taking items with an individual value greater than $2,000, and for which there is a ready market, on consignment. We consider purchasing outright items that have a lesser value and a ready market. Learn more at Selling to Us.

Can you arrange the sale of a very high-value item through an auction house like Sotheby’s for me?

Yes. Through our long-term formal professional association with major auction houses, we can place select items for sale in those venues, charging you the same commission rates that you would expect if you dealt with them directly.

Do you hold auctions or estate sales?

Yes. We are always looking for exceptional groups of antique furnishings, decorations, fine art and rare collectibles that can comprise a sale on their own, or around which we can build a larger sale. Please see our Auction Archives for past examples.

If you don’t want something, can you tell me who would buy it?

Yes. We are happy to refer you to a reliable local business who might be interested in items that are not of interest to us.

Do you provide written appraisals?

If you require a written appraisal, please contact us and we can refer you to a reputable local appraiser who may be able to help.

Do you provide insurance appraisals?

We do not provide insurance appraisals, but we are happy to refer you to a reputable local appraiser who may be able to help.

How much does an evaluation cost?

We are happy to provide free, verbal purchase evaluations in our Saratoga NY and Colonie NY offices. There is no charge to bring items into the office. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

How many items can I bring in for an evaluation?

We are happy to look at any items you would like to bring in. As a courtesy to our other clients, we do ask that you keep it to a box of items, not a carload, without prior arrangement.

How long will my appointment take?

Most appointments average 15 to 20 minutes, although many variables can affect the length of your visit.
