1866 SARATOGA SPRINGS SILVER FIRE TRUMPET
ADDED TO IMPORTANT SALE OF ANTIQUES, FURNITURE AND DECORATIONS

SARATOGA
SPRINGS, NY– Mark Lawson, proprietor of Mark Lawson Auctions, 492
Maple Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY, is pleased to announce important
additions to the Auction of Property of Various New York Country
Estates, to be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center, located at 522
Broadway in historic downtown Saratoga Springs, NY.

A
presentation silver fire trumpet, dated 1866, from the Saratoga Springs
Fire Department, is one the featured items among many important and
rare Saratoga Springs historical objects. Also included is an Art Deco
architectural drawing of the Congress Theater originally located at 328
Broadway, as well as a rare candid large albumin photograph of
President Ulysses S. Grant on the veranda of the Grand Union Hotel in
1869. Additional 19th century Saratoga photographs are to be auctioned,
as well as rare Saratoga stoneware, furniture and decorative items from
the aforementioned Grand Union Hotel, a Saratoga Springs landmark
visited by presidents, dignitaries and wealthy racetrack patrons during
the Gilded Age.

The
auction will run on Saturday, April 1st, from noon until approximately
5pm. A preview of the items offered will be held Friday, March 31st,
from 4pm until 8pm, as well as Saturday from 9am until sale time. Mr.
Lawson will serve as auctioneer. Absentee bidding is available.

The
auction will also feature many antiques and other items including
period and Victorian furniture, original artwork, many pieces by
well-listed artists, as well as decorative objects, silver, jewelry and
Persian rugs. Also included: a large assortment of fine estate jewelry
including a superb 2.9 carat GIA Certified diamond and platinum Art
Deco lady’s ring; a 1959 Jaguar Mark I sedan; a remarkable
six-piece 19th century Victorian faux bamboo assembled bedroom set from
Woodlawn Park, Saratoga Springs (estate of notorious Boss Tweed
associate Henry Hilton); an 18th century Blackamoor King and Queen oil
on canvas painting, signed Bachmayer (also from Woodlawn Park); a
striking 5.31 carat Alexandrite platinum and diamond ring, and a rare
watercolor and pencil drawing by English artist J.M.W. Turner.
