Oil Painting, Portrait of Identified Cuban Gentleman, Don Ignacio Herrera, 19th Century
Framed oil painting on canvas, identified with old label at reverse as Cuban army officer Don Ignacio Herrera. Descended through the family. Remounted and restored by Michael Alonzo for the Bennington (Vermont) Historical Museum and Art Gallery in 1962. Canvas is mounted on Masonite board, stretcher not original. Frame is period, perhaps original, with overpainted gold. Scattered small inpainted areas, not more than 2-3 square inches total, examined under black light.
